JSM has reached three million man hours without reporting a RIDDOR

October 27th, 2016

JSM completes three million man hours without reporting a RIDDOR. This achievement is a clear testament to the company and its employees commitment in ensuring that health & safety is the highest priority within the company. It also demonstrates that each and every one of us are striving to ensure that we all go home safe to our families at the end of the working day.

Safety is one of our core values, we aim to ensure that all of our employees remain free from harm or ill health as a result of their work. We can continue to achieve this by ensuring diligent planning, effective supervision and management, trusted supply chain and a trained and competent workforce. It is also essential that we have realistic timescales, achievable standards and expectations.

Congratulations to everyone on achieving this extraordinary accomplishment.

Aberaman Generation Site

August 8th, 2016

JSM carried out the following project for Western Power Distribution that involved the installation of a 33kV underground cable in Aberdare. The 1.25km cable ran from a Western Power Distribution pole within a disused industrial site to an indoor 33kV circuit breaker at the Aberaman Generation site.

JSM installed 1.25km of Emetelle duct in various environments such as across highways and agricultural lane on private and public property. The new 33kV cable was laid in a trefoil formation with the circuit being a part of a three phase circuit using a 185mm2 EPR cable. All of the site’s commissioning of the cable circuit was conducted via a series of resonance testing.

Summary

JSM conducted trench excavations, cable installation, the construction of joint bays, the backfilling and reinstatement of all excavations which was completed under NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act).

Hawkeridge 33Kv Diversion

August 3rd, 2016

JSM were contracted by a UK DNO to carry out two 33kV circuit diversions at an industrial development site in Hawkeridge, Westbury. The purpose of this seven-week operation was to remove 3 spans of overhead line networks to allow for further development on the land.

JSM approximately excavated 55 metres of trench and installed six 33kV 500mm² aluminium single core cables which ran from our client’s substation to their newly erected H- Pole. The trenches, excavated using plant and by hand, travelled through entirely agricultural land. During the project the team faced water ingress within a small section of the trench route. To resolve this JSM employed a 6 tonne industrial pump to control and reduce the water which was successful. All HV cables were laid in trefoil and each circuit was separated throughout the open lay trench.

JSM excavated, installed and reinstated all excavations, to our clients and the land owner’s specification. JSM provided all the labour and plant for this project.

Gaydon – Harbury 33,000 Volts Cable Reinforcement

July 26th, 2016

Western Power Distribution the electricity distributor for the Midlands, South West and Wales, need to carry out Construction works in and around the Gaydon to Harbury area in order to reinforce and extend its 33,000 volts electrical network. This will enable future planned expansion of industry and development in the area.

The works will consist of installing underground cables from Western Power Distribution’s substation at Bishop Itchington in Harbury to Gaydon. The cables will be installed in excavated trenches within highway and agricultural land.  Part of the underground route will be along the B4451 Station Rd, B4451 Gaydon Rd, Manor Rd, and Plough Lane.

For the safety of road users and our staff, we will need to use temporary traffic lights in short sections along the carriageway whilst installing the underground cables

The overall project is due to start at the beginning of August 2016 and will be completed by Autumn of 2016. Work on Station Road and Gaydon Road will take place between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday and 9am and 6pm on Sundays and is scheduled to start on the first week in August for a period of approximately 4 weeks. The temporary traffic lights will be in place at all times for the duration of the work and will be removed as soon as it is safe to do so.

Whilst the work is being carried out we will endeavour to minimise any disruption to the community and road users, and will ensure wherever possible that residents and business’ can access their properties at all times.

Royal Albert Hall

July 21st, 2016

JSM received great feedback from one of our Telecom clients following a two-day project in Kensington, London, carrying a customer connection. A client representative praised JSM’s “superb effort”, “professional behaviour” and our “safe and tidy ways of working on site”.

For this fast paced job on the doorstep of the historic Royal Albert Hall, JSM successfully excavated, laid duct, reinstated the footpath, pulled in external cable, installed building flexibility points, installed optical distribution frames and terminated, prepped and spliced the network.

“A fantastic effort by any standards in only 2 days!”

Positive working and great job outcomes such as this enforces a great working relationship with our clients.
