PIA installation accounted for over 70% of this project and provided challenges in regard to programming works, traffic management and recording data for BT records.

Starting from a beach landing cable and out through a busy resort town, along a major trunk road through existing BT Openreach network and into the busy telecoms area around Slough DC’s,  JSM introduced new procedures, as well as adapted existing processes to ensure that each element of the project could run concurrently.

The whole route consisted of :

  • 6km of BT Openreach PIA installation through Brighton;
  • Off network chambers from 3rd party duct route, 5 Chambers total;
  • 73km of BT Openreach PIA Installation from just outside Brighton to Chobham in Surrey;
  • 23km of new network build through passing through Windsor;
  • 6km of combined new network build a 3rd Party duct routes from Windsor to Slough DCs;
  • A total of 107km new cable installed.

The key deliverables for this scheme were:

  • Route proving and installing a single 25mm subduct into BT Openreach Network, documenting survey and as built information;
  • Construct 46 new splice chambers and all associated turning and maintenance chambers;
  • Installation of 432f cable from Brighton to Slough including all joining and subsequent testing to client specifications.

Interfaces

  • JSM liaised with the several local authorities throughout the scheme including Brighton and Hove City Council, West Sussex County Council, Surrey County Council and the Royal Borough of Slough & Windsor;
  • JSM maintained regular weekly meetings with all the stakeholders and coordinated works with the minimum of disruption to the public and road users;
