2800 – EHV Cable Jointer/ EHV Cabling

Field-based

This is a field-based role carrying out EHV cable jointing, terminating and associated works on Oil Filled and XLPe cables up to and including 275kV. Candidates should have experience of jointing either XLPE or fluid filled cables within the voltage range of 33kV to 275kV.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • DNO Competencies (UKPN/SSE Preferred)
  • Understanding and experience in oil filled cable freezing and other fault-finding techniques
  • Experience of terminating/jointing gas cables (optional)
  • Experience in terminating cables intro insulated switchgear (GIS). Carried out fibre optic cable installation and jointing. (Optional)
  • Experience on at least two of the following Tyco, ex BICC, Ericsson, NKT, and Pirelli ABB terminations and joints
  • Proven knowledge of basic construction health and safety
  • Knowledge of CDM 2007 legislation
  • Proven practical and technical knowledge and experience in EHV cable jointing
  • Basic technical and practical experience in the EHV electrical distribution industry on cables
  • Strong practical knowledge in civil services associated with cable jointing
  • Basic level of IT literacy
  • People management experience as lead Jointer
  • Able to work under pressure, make decisions and meet tight deadlines
  • Proactive and creative approach to problem solving
  • Ability to meet deadlines without compromising on quality
  • Ability to quickly build strong working relationships with people at all levels
  • Exceptional customer management skills

Principal Duties and Accountabilities:

  • High standard of professionalism of any jointing or associated works within a given area, delivering high productivity in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring that all work is conducted safely and in compliance with company policies
  • Ensure high productivity and efficiency through effective control and utilisation of resources, operating within the appropriate Safety Management system as defined by HS (G) 65 and the Board of Directors
  • Work closely with the EHV Management team to ensure that all processes and activities are carried and completed in accordance with the approved procedures
  • Understand the scope of works, programme of works with the activities to meet delivery timescales
  • Assess the level of risk and identify any health and safety risks, financial risks and the development of the associated contingency plans
  • Assist the team to produce method statements and risk assessments as required
  • Accept full responsibility for the compliance with the Construction Design and Management Regulation (CDM) 2007 for the personal safety, safety of all project team members and safety of the general public within your given work area

General Duties:

  • Complying with all safety rules, site rules and procedures instructed by others when working on 3′” party sites
  • Provide support to ensure that the jointing/cabling related records are completed, accurate and up to date
  • Maintain a strong customer focus and provide a positive customer experience
  • Ensure that all accidents, dangerous occurrences and near miss incidents are reported as per the company procedures
  • Promote a professional image on the site
  • Proactively motivate and develop the workforce encouraging good communication and team work
  • Prioritise own workload in order to meet deadlines without comprising quality standards
  • Create and maintain good communication and relationships with, clients, suppliers, councils, staff and members of the public

Qualifications:

  • In possession of relevant certificates and qualifications (BESC, HSG 47, Streetworks, and CSCS) (preferred)
  • The candidate must have received training, have experience and be certificated on XLPE and oil filled cables, joints and terminations at voltages from 33kV up to 132kV. Extensive experience with jointing and maintenance of oil-filled cables is required
  • In possession of a current valid UK driving license
