JSM Group secures 400kV cable contract for Statera Energy battery storage site in Greater Manchester
JSM Group has been appointed by Statera Energy to carry out 400kV cable installation works for a new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility at Wharfside Business Park in Greater Manchester, marking another step forward for the specialist infrastructure engineer in the UK’s energy transition.
The contract covers the installation of a duct route and a 400kV underground cable circuit spanning approximately 1km in a single circuit configuration — a critical piece of the new energy storage infrastructure serving the region.
JSM Group’s Power team will lead stakeholder engagement throughout the project, working closely with National Grid, local authorities and third-party landowners to keep delivery on track. Before excavation begins, the company’s in-house civil engineering teams will carry out preparatory works, including sheet piling along the site’s steep embankment to form a retaining wall. This will guard against ground instability and provide a safe working platform for the duration of the project.
Reflecting the momentum behind the UK’s energy transition
“We are delighted to have been selected by Statera Energy to deliver this significant high-voltage project. The installation of 400kV infrastructure for a battery energy storage facility reflects both the growing momentum behind the UK’s energy transition and the depth of capability that JSM Group brings to complex power projects. Our team has the technical expertise and operational experience to manage every aspect of this work safely and efficiently, from stakeholder engagement through to the final cable installation. We look forward to working closely with Statera Energy and all parties to deliver this project to the highest standards.”
